Example System Configurations

MDS America’s MVDDS systems allow you to deploy different configurations from one environment to another, determined by the IP services, data rates, coverage areas etc. required for your project.

A) MVDDS Downstream Layered over an Existing Wireless Broadband Network

You have a wireless broadband network. You face a problem that this network reaches its maximum capacity, maximum performance and there are no free frequencies (bandwidth) available for expansion. Taking into account an asymmetric nature of Internet access we add the MVDDS downstream layers over the existing wireless network to shift its downstream part to MVDDS with times more bandwidth available.MVDDS Home with Antennas 10-1

Now transponder TR1 and TR2 carry the downstream part of the network, your wireless base station works for upstreams only with way less load/traffic. MVDDS spectrum has many times more capacity than your old wireless frequency band so you can add 2, 3, 10, 20 MVDDS transponders.

B) MVDDS Wireless Broadband Network—  Inexpensive Quick Buildout of Bandwidth

You need to build a broadband network quickly within few months of time span. An MVDDS wireless broadband network is a solution with a big potential for future expansion of downstream part.MVDDS Home with Antennas 2MVDDS systems have flexible configuration options.  The upstream connections can be aimed straight at the main TX tower where MVDDS antenna and wireless base station antennas are collocated. Depending on TX power level, MVDDS layers can cover larger area than the uplink system, so some upstream connections can go through a repeater / retransmission site.MVDDS Home with Antennas 8-8

The uplinks can also terminate at another base station with reliable connections to Internet or to the main TX tower/NOC by a dark fiber or high speed Ethernet connections.MVDDS Home with Antennas 9-9

If there is a cellular network with reliable LTE, 4G connection, MVDDS system can also use this for uplinks.MVDDS Home with Antennas 5

C) MVDDS Wireless Network—  IPTV Multicast

An operator uses a head-end with digital TV programming and creates a TV channel lineup using terrestrial transponders to broadcast TV in multicast mode to customers. This model is similar to what direct broadcast satellites (DBS) use.  MDDS system utilizes enough transponders to carry all desired TV channels. If there is no need to create a return channel, the system can serve an unlimited number of subscribers.
